The Office of Interspecies Relations is a project developed in the city of Sant-Cugat in the vicinity of Barcelona with the collaboration of curator and writer Caterina Almirall. The objectives of the Office of Interspecies Relations is to analyze and facilitate our complex relationship with other species on our planet.
In the case of Sant Cugat we focused on the problem of the population increase of the Wild Boar in urban areas. The project consisted in a series of actions and meetings with local groups involved with the management of the wild boar. Taking the problem of the increasing presence of the wild boar in the area as a starting point we proposed a series of activities and meetings in public spaces of the city. Broadening our understanding of what we understand as an ecosystem and how this knowledge builds and feeds or political, social and ideological system was the main goal of these encounters. Proposing a more transversal and metabolic vision or our relation with the natural environment.
One of the main events was the performance presented within a van. In the van an actor interpreted a interspecies dialog with herself, the bacteria in her stomach and an orange that the assistants were invited to eat and share. This dialog juxtaposed not only the voices of these organic characters yet also those of different theorist and writers who have reflected on the subject of our relation with other species. These authors include Donna Harraway and Timothy Morton among others. For this activity we also collaborated with the Ecopatology of Wild Fauna Service of the University Autonoma (SEFaS) and the architect Àlex Cuesta.

L’Oficina de Relació Interespècies és un projecte desenvolupat a la ciutat de Sant-Cugat en col·laboració amb la comissaria i escriptora Caterina Almirall. L’Oficina treballa per analitzar i facilitar la complexa relació entre espècies. Per aquesta ocasió l’Oficina partia de la problemàtica del porc senglar en àrees urbanes. A partir d’aquest conflicte es va organitzar un seguit de petites accions i trobades amb diferents col·lectius i organitzacions de la zona. L’objectiu del projecte va ser activar una conversa no solament sobre el senglar sinó sobre la gestió dels espais públics i la nostra relació amb l’entorn natural. L’Oficina busca ampliar la manera d’entendre les nostres relacions amb els ecosistemes que envolten i posar en qüestió alguns paradigmes de base de la nostra societat occidental. Oferint per tant una visió més transversal i metabòlica de les nostres relacions amb el medi natural.
Una de les accions principals de l’Oficina va consistir a situar una furgoneta en una plaça a la Floresta on dins es duia a terme una performance. Les persones entraven en el vehicle en grups de 6 on es trobaven una actriu que interpretava un diàleg entre diverses espècies diferents. Ens trobàvem amb una conversa entre un bacteri intestinal, una taronja i l’actriu. Aquesta performance no solament contraposava la veu de diversos personatges orgànics com la taronja i el bacteri sinó també escrits d’autors del pensament Ecològic com per exemple Timothy Morton i Dora Harraway entre d’altres. Ampliant la nostra perspectiva ecosistèmic i com aquest coneixement intervé directament amb el nostre entorn polític, social i econòmic va ser l’objectiu principal d’aquesta activitat. Per l’ocasió es va comptar amb la col·laboració del Servei d’Ecopatologia de Fauna Salvatge (SEFaS) i de l’arquitecta Àlex Cuesta. Esperem que l’Oficina de relacions Interespècies trobi noves vies per continuar la seva labor.
